What Kick the Tires does
Kick the Tires is a Chrome extension that displays car reliability information on AutoScout24 listing pages. It reads publicly visible listing data (such as make, model, fuel type, and mileage) on the page you are viewing to match it against our reliability database. All matching happens locally in your browser.
Data we collect
We collect a small amount of anonymous usage data to improve the extension. This includes:
- Extension installed / uninstalled events
- Which car models are viewed (make, model, generation โ never the listing URL or seller information)
- Whether reliability data was shown or the model was unsupported
- Interactions with the extension panel (opened, closed, tab switches)
This data is sent to Mixpanel, our analytics provider. All events are anonymous โ we do not collect your name, email, IP address, browsing history, or any information that could identify you personally.
Data we do not collect
- Personal information (name, email, address, phone number)
- Browsing history or activity outside of AutoScout24 pages
- Listing URLs, seller details, or pricing information
- Cookies or cross-site tracking data
- Login credentials or AutoScout24 account information
Permissions
The extension requires access to AutoScout24 pages only. It does not access any other websites or browser data. The specific permissions requested and their purposes are listed in the Chrome Web Store listing.
Data storage and security
All reliability matching happens locally in your browser โ no listing data is sent to our servers. Anonymous analytics events are transmitted to Mixpanel via encrypted HTTPS connections.
Third parties
The only third-party service receiving data from the extension is Mixpanel (anonymous usage analytics). We do not sell, share, or transfer any data to other third parties.
Data retention
Anonymous analytics data is retained in Mixpanel for up to 12 months, after which it is automatically deleted.
Chrome Web Store compliance
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your rights
Since we do not collect personal data, there is no personal data to access, correct, or delete. If you wish to stop all data collection, simply uninstall the extension. If you believe we are processing your personal data in error, you may contact us at info@kickthetires.ch. For users in Switzerland and the EU, this policy complies with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
